I guess today's run was doomed to "fail" before it even began. Started by being lazy this morning and not getting out to run until 10:30, usually I've eaten two "meals" by now, but today I havent eaten anything. Then I drink a bunch of water this morning to make sure I dont have to "stop" on the run (because there is no place to "stop"), but then I forget to "stop" before I start.. doh! I wasnt sure what I was going to run today, the plan had been another week of 2,2,2,0,3, but I was feeling froggy after Friday's run. So I was toying w/ 3,2,2,0,3. Up until I started running I still wasnt sure, but I set the Nike+ for 5k just in case. Well I started.. and decided I'd just do 2 but I'd use my 3mi route in case I changed my mind. So I hit the first mile marker in 10:45, and I felt ok, there were a couple other runners out there and I decided I'd go for 3. At the same time in my head I was telling myself I couldn't even do 1 more because of my early pace... um.. good idea?! no. I slow down (~11:30), hit the half way point, and decide I've got to walk for 10 seconds. Then I just continue to slow down.. and down. Until, again, at the 2.5 I had to walk for 20 seconds. AND again at 2.75 (I could almost see my house, I should be kicking hard now not stopping?!) I had to walk for another 20. Pace was below 12:00 for almost the entire last mile. And below 13:00 for a lot of it.
Almost exactly 3mi in 37:15min. I think today was probably 1/2 mental and 1/2 bad prep. Oh well, there is always tomorrow. And it wasnt a "terrible" run, just not what I wanted! I think my splits were probably something like 10:45, 12:30, 14:00..
At least it was hot, humid, and windy. 64F, 87%, 15mph steady, 25mph gusts. But I did break out the shorts and t-shirt today! The more I think about it and look at my pace graph from Nike, today was more like 3/4 mental and 1/4 bad prep. I'm mad at myself for not getting my head into the run (I was all over the place today) and pushing through the last mile better, even a 12:15 would have given me a decent overall time. Talk about leaving some in the tank.. Better to have a bad run than no run at all.. Unless I have 3 really good runs the rest of the week.. no beer on Friday! P.S. I do like Monday's for one reason.. I'm currently at the top of the 3rd page of the weekly mileage board!! HA!
